And I thought that tea was a safe and healthy drink

How the pesticide gets into a cola bottle? a good question. It is there in the ground water. The water you use for cooking and drinking. Whether cola or no cola our ground water is polluted with lot of chemicals which are injurious to the humans. But we blame cola. I am not a supporter of cola.

We have to find a solution to this problem.  Why so much of pesticide in the ground water. Agriculturists use more pesticide to protect their yield. Vegetables, flowers, fruits are all full of pesticides. Food grain is also loaded with pesticides. How it happens. The agricultural department recommends the farmers on the use of appropriate pesticides. Can they not tell them about biopesticides which are effective and safe. But pesticide companies use the agricultural department to boost up their sales and they have to show profit.

Bio pesticides are safe, and equally effective. But nobody is interested. It is less costly. But who cares.

Sabarimala and women

Hinduism respects women more than any other religion.
Womenhood is worshipped as a Kanyaka(Virgin), as a married women, as a mother, etc. Women are not barred in any temples. In North India, women are allowed to perform puja to the main diety at the temples. At homes, on auspicious days, only women perform pujas. There is no bar on women conduction yagnas, or homas.
Although some religious people raised objection to the prayer being sung in the schools, " Vande Matharam", it continues to be the universally accepted prayer to the divine mother. In Kerala, some religious sects objected to this and disallowed their children from participating in the prayer singing this hymn saluting the divine mother.
Chritianity, does not allow equal status to women in their churches. Women are not allowed to enter the pulpit. They are not allowed to be obdained as priests. Although a  rethinking is taking place in this issue.
Islam, the most recentlyformed and most modern religion, does not allow their women to enter mosques. Women demand separate mosques to enable them to pray.  These are all their individual traits and beliefs over which we have nothing to comment .
In hinduism, local customes are respected. If women are not allowed in her procreative age to enter Sabarimala, it is respected and observed. Entering the temple after observing the 41 days vrath, is not possible. How can a women in procreative age observe the 41 days of vrath. According to hindu custom, when the woman goes through her periodical menstrual cycle, she said to be impure and is not allowed to even touch others. She does not enter the kitchen and cood food. Either the husband cooks or some other member of the family cooks.
Well, these are all customs of a region. There are many temples constructed for Ayyappa in various parts of the country and women freely go and worship there. But these rules are observed in Sabarimala and if you wish to visit Sabarimala, you have to observe these rules.
As many intelligent people have said that they dont believe in God, or in the religion, or in the temple and yet insist to pass some comments on Jayamala episode, it is unfortunate. If they are bold enough let them pass some comment on the beliefs of other religions such as Islam or christianity.

The Spirit of My Bombay

What spirit of Bombay?
Get beaten by terrorists, get killed in dozens, and yet with a bold face travel in the train and go to office the very next day. Is it the spirit of Bombay about which you are proud of.
Many of your police men are friends of terrorists, you could do nothing about it. Many of the politicians have enjoyed the hospitality of terrorists in Dubai, and yet they are still adoring the ministerial berths and enjoying at the tax payers expense. Many of the bollywood stars are involved with terrorists.  But still they are heros not only in films, but in real life.  How can we miss the films of Sanjay, Salman etc . if they are put jails.  They are still heros with great fan following, despite their terrorist connections.  Many MLAs still win elections with the money of bootleggers and gamblers. Dawood Ibrahim invests huge amount of money in films, dance bars, hotel, brothels etc. His grip over Bombay is unshaken.
Inspite of being killed in such large numbers, and injured in thousands, all that you could do is to carry a grim face and go to office on the following day as on any other day. It is your livlihood that you are bothered about, just like any other person. What is so great about it.
On the day of election, you will forget everything, and again elect the same scoundral whom you voted for last time. What more can you do. Forget and suffer it. WUGIWUD!!!!

They are all busy sitting in font of their TV watching some cricket or serials. It is not different in Kasaragod. Snakes are also few nowadays. Snake skin gets a better price. Your photos are good. Democracy Zindabg

Freedom of expression is the fundamental of democracy. People cannot be expected to speak only what others like. Da Vinci Code was produced in a christian country, by a christian producer . It is very popular thruought the world and it is pointless to be banned in Tamil nad and Andhra. The book is a wonderful book and has been based on authentic documents.
It is just votebank politics. Nothing else.

THE FISH MONGER OF KALOOR

I was surprised to read the word Kaloor in the weblog heading. Fish mongering is in the same fashion as has been described in the post. They come by moped or bicycle with a blue plastic container. Sometimes when the catches are in abundance they bring a small van and shout at the top of their voice  There are woman wenders who carry a basket full of fish and come in the morning.  They dont shout but go to their permanent clients and give the fish and by 11 am they return.

My wife had arrangement with one Kunji. Kunji used to bring fresh fish and on entering the house will go straight to the kitchen and talk to my wife. My wife a vegetarian, did not know how to clean and cut the fish. Kunji used to help her and for which my wife gave her a cup of hot tea and whatever we have for breakfast, like idlis, or dosa, or puttu. Kunji used to come to my house on her way back, clean the fish, cut them into pieces and pack them in small plastic bags for storing in the fridge so that my wife need not have to touch it by hand.

The beauty of this blog will be seen only by those who relish dishes made out of fish. A good blog.

goddess in a tree

Arey, Ayer, what kind of ayer you are?
making fun of the great goddess! How dare you comment on her  breasts? She is protecting  the whole universe, consisting  of you and me. Not the urban development goddess
Flyover or no flyover she will remain in the shades of the peepul tree overseeing all the twowheeler fellows like you dashing against the trees due to irreverance towards her. When you started writing about the rural roads etc. I thought you are suggesting some new technic to repair the village roads.
Finally a motorbike mechanic has to tell you that goddess cannot sit facing southwards.
Hereafter when you write to Sulekha, be careful not to write funny things about goddesses or even gods.
Do you understand.

My dates with dentists

You are right, PGR, you will never get a favourable comment from a dentist ever about your teeth.  I can proudly say that I have never gone to a dentist during the last 71 years of my life and I carry a healthy set of teeth much to the jealousy of many of my friends and relatives.   I have been chewing tobacco for the past twenty or so years and before that I was a chain smoker. My sons say that it is the tobacco stain that is giving protection to my teeth.
But the fact remains that they are all there and intact.
